When the Seas Get Rough

Everyone has bad days and some of those bad days can seem overwhelming.  Following are some personal ideas and experiences that have helped me overcome obstacles and relieve some stress that we all suffer from.  These are ideas for the short term issues, not solutions to long term challenges or obstacles.  This is a simple post on dealing with daily stress, I will post in the future about dealing with prolonged challenges and obstacles.

  • a good nights sleep is an amazing remedy for a bad day.
  • a new day brings a fresh attitude and the new day tends to cleanse out the stale thoughts of yesterday.
  • rigorous exercise is a win-win against stress, it helps overcome a tough day and of course has health benefits .
  • re-prioritize, re-set your goals and write them down.  maybe you were focusing on the wrong things.
  • write down the to do list and prioritize what needs to be done and get busy knockin down action items.
  • stay busy and focused on solving problems, think about solving problems instead of just thinking about them.
  • keeping busy allows you to make progress, instead of getting stale and non-productive.
  • if you have one major issue that is causing emotional duress, don’t act immediately, step back, take a deep breath and think the problem through.  Let the emotional side wane and look at the facts, your thought process and focusing on facts will allow you to make the right decision.
  • seperate the people from the problem, and the facts from emotions.  Deal with the problem and the facts.  You won’t make good decisions with emotions and personal attacks on people.
  • if there’s financial stress involved, get involved in exercise that doesn’t require a lot of expenses, walking, running, cycling, surfing, tennis, hiking and weight lifting.
  • keep it simple, break everything down to simple and manageable action items.
